As a certified Family Dog Mediator, I consider the dog's L.E.G.S. (learning, environment, genetics, and self) before implementing any training plan. I am also a certified Canine Enrichment Technician who can help meet your dog's needs for mental and physical stimulation beyond and alongside any training needs. You can view these certifications on the about page.
My intention is to find the kindest option possible—the one that results in the least amount of distress and discomfort for the dog within the circumstances. I also think it's important to consider the human part of the equation—you! Dog training is about collaboration, so if for ANY reason something feels odd, confusing, or too difficult, let's talk about it! There's a lot of conflicting information out there for dog owners, and I want to make sure you and your dog feel listened to.
I also acknowledge that even though I make an effort to continue learning and keep up to date on the latest science regarding dog behavior, I don't know and can't specialize in everything. If you bring a dog to me that I am not the best fit for, I will happily help you locate other professionals or resources in order to meet your needs and goals.
Consults are $65 for 30 minutes.
Lesson Packages are $300 for 3 hours.
AKC Trick Dog, FIT Dog, and CGC evaluations are $15 (CGC must be in-person)
You can reschedule or cancel up to 24 hrs before a consult or first lesson in a package to receive a full refund.
Cancellations within 24 hrs of the first lesson in a package or reschedule requests without any communication will not receive full refunds. Cancellations within 24 hours of a consult will not receive a refund.
If you need to reschedule within 24 hours of a consult or lesson package and then request a cancellation at a later date, it will be treated as giving notice of cancellation within 24 hours and will not receive a refund.
You will receive immediate advice or strategies to help your dog after your initial consult. For some folks, that is all that's needed to get started with their dog. If you decide that ongoing lessons would be beneficial, you can purchase a private lesson package for longer term, ongoing support with your dog and goals.
Private lessons working directly with both you and your dog in your home or within the local community depending on the needs and progress of your dog. During each visit we will review progress or setbacks, adjust the plan as needed, and build upon behaviors toward your goals. You are encouraged to reach out at any time if you're running into any bumps or have questions between sessions.
Consults
All initial consults are done virtually over Google Meet. This is to allow us both to discuss any issues or goals without the added distraction and excitement that often happens with an initial in person visit. I want to make sure my full attention is spent listening to your needs and concerns and that I get accurate and thorough information in order to create the best plan moving forward.
If you cannot access Google Meet, other accommodations can be made (just let me know as soon as possible).
Private Lessons
Virtual and in-person*
*In-person lessons are only available near Rotan, TX and take place in your home, or the surrounding community depending on what we're working on and of course, the dog.
I do not currently offer in-person group classes, but may occasionally offer virtual group classes and webinars,
If you follow me on social media, you may have seen me use this hashtag a few times. I do my best to stick to the LIMA humane hierarchy, but beyond that, I try to dismantle expectations around what a dog or owner "should" do.
Don't care if your dog begs for food? Hey, neither do I! It isn't a moral failing if your dog begs for food, walks in front of you, or sleeps in your bed, and if it doesn't bother you it shouldn't bother anyone else. Your goals are your goals, and nobody else's. Let's put our energy to the behaviors you want to work on.
A lot of what others consider necessary behaviors for a dog stem from the outdated idea that we as humans must be "alpha" over our dogs—that they should respect us and do as we say simply because we say it—but dogs are sentient beings with their own agendas, desires and fears.
When I say I practice anarchist dog training, it doesn't mean permissive or chaotic (in fact, I'm very particular about dog manners in my own home). Rather, it's to remind myself and others to look at their relationship with their dog as a partnership and to examine the inherent power dynamic between owner and dog. Is what we're asking for fair and for the right reasons? Is the way we ask it reasonable and kind?
Sure, as owners we need to make decisions and take actions that our dogs wouldn't always agree with, but that's even more reason to provide as much agency and choice as possible in other areas. When we do, we start to see amazing transformations and end up with more stable dogs and much stronger relationships with them.
